Search tips Welcome to the Library services for nurses website. We hope
you find it useful. Here are a few pointers for the information available
in the directories. There are three basic ways of looking for information: The main menu for both these approaches is shown on the left side of
the screen. A database search can be completed by typing in a key word in the 'Search library...' box, then pressing 'Go', or by following the 'Advanced search' link to refine your query. We apologise to those searching the database in Welsh, but the information
retrieved from this database is not available in Welsh. This is because
data submitted for inclusion is updated frequently, and the site translation
is carried out by a company external to the RCN. However, suggestions
for improvements to the bilingual service currently offered are always
welcome - see contacts for further information. The map can be navigated in one of two ways: i) Choose 'Back to UK map' and select an approximate area for your search (the UK is broken down into 100km squares). You will then be taken to a screen with your chosen 100km square broken down into 5km squares - just click on any area to view the an enlarged 5km square. You can then either click another area of the 100km square, or click the direction arrows that appear at the edge of the enlarged area. When these arrows are not visible this means you have reached the edge of the area covered by the map. ii) Alternatively, select a location name from the 'find a place' drop-down
box. The map will then move to that grid square. The flashing red marker
on the small map indicates your approximate location. A grid square containing libraries will show flashing blue markers
at the relevant location. Click on these to bring up the information
on that library. Alternatively, type in a keyword in the box to search
all the libraries contained in the database. The library information is divided into three sections. The first provides
contact information for the library. The second provides specific information
on resources available for nurses, and the third provides more general
information on services offered and the institution location. At the
bottom there is information on how to provide us with feedback. Finally, if you are looking for services in your locality, don't forget
to check the access restrictions listed under 'Resources for Nurses'.
Not all the institutions will be appropriate to your needs so do read
the notes carefully. We are very grateful to everyone who has provided information for this site, and hope that this will be as much help to them in informing users in advance of the type of service offered, as it is to individuals in pointing them toward services in their locality.
